Apollo Monument Dedication on July 17 in Titusville, FL

What: dedication of the Apollo Monument by the U.S. Space Walk of Fame Foundation

When: Friday, July 17, 2009 starting at 10am

Where: Space View Park in downtown Titusville.

The dedication ceremony begins at 10:00am and is expected to last 45 minutes to an hour. Astronaut Al Worden and special guests are scheduled to be on hand for the festivities. The Apollo monument designed by artist Sandy Storm of Merritt Island was built to honor the space workers and astronauts of the Apollo Program who made exploring the moon a reality. Twelve bronze panels will surround the base of the monument telling the Apollo story. On permanent display at Apollo are bronzed handprints of all the living Apollo Astronauts, where young and old alike can put their hands in the handprints of men who walked on the moon.

The Apollo Monument joins the existing Gemini Monument and Mercury Monument as tributes to the space workers and astronauts that created those early NASA programs.

The Foundation is also hosting an Apollo Reunion taking place the same (July 17th) noon to 6 at Fox Lake Park.  Cost is $15. There will be book signings, artifact appraisals and other non intrusive attractions.
