Updates from Jack, August 18:

Dear Yuri’s Night Team,

Tim Bailey and I had a great meeting with Jason
McKee at the Cocoa Beach Hilton on 8/17. They
want to do the Cocoa Beach Yuri’s Night Event
there, no ifs ands or buts. We have scoped it
out somewhat (below). Jason will handle several
things including coordination with city/county
for permits, several sponsors (for $ and
giveaways), some publicity, banners, vendors,
etc. etc. Next step is to scope it out further
and make a cost estimate. Then, Tim and I will
go back to Jason and ink a deal. Tim is very
saavy about horsetrading things like guaranteed
rooms for lower rates for the ballroom. Also, I
took a shot at various positions for you all to
fill on the team. So, please comment to the
scope below and please volunteer to serve in one
or more positions. Let me know if you have other
friends who might want to help. This one is
going to be awesome! I will soon set up weekly
Thursday lunches in HQ cafeteria for those who
are able to have a quick weekly tag up. Need to
then soon have weekly team meetings/telecons
after work. We all have day jobs, so dividing
and conquering the work and having excellent team
communication will be the keys. Thanks everyone.

Update from Jack, Sep 7:

Dear Yuri’s Night Cocoa Beach 2008 Team,

I am very pleased to announce that Mr.
Christopher Reeves has agreed to be the overall
team lead. Please dive in and be an active
member on his team. I am stepping way back to
watch y’all make it happen. It really needs to
be a 20-something all night rave type of
event. Been there, done that…in the 80′s! I am
always available to provide guidance and sponsor
connections. I think the day time beach party at
Lori Wilson Park transitioning into an evening
party at the adjacent Cocoa Beach Hilton pool
deck is a very workable plan. I also recommend
you not use work email and transition to using
the existing yahoo distribution
list: NSSFL@yahoogroups.com. The homepage can
be used to post information, too. Please go to
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/NSSFL and click on
“join this group” in the upper right. There are
26 people in this list. Some of you have already
added yourselves to the list I know. Well, about
7 months to Yuri’s Night Cocoa Beach 2008. It
will be awesome. For information on Yuri’s Night
go to http://www.yurisnight.net Pictures from
lots of world-wide 2007 events including our
Cocoa Beach event are at: http://www.yurisnight.net/gallery/v/2007/

Thanks everyone,
Jack

2. September 20, Thursday, Chapter Meeting, update from Jack:

Dear fellow present and future space travelers,

Tim is out of town this week [second Tuesday
week] and we’ll have a special meeting day for
September only. Looking at Thursday, September
20th at TBD location. Probably at Port Canaveral
somewhere. Follow up message as soon as we can. Thanks.

[Also, Fred and I had a super time today at the
National Space Club luncheon at the DoubleTree
Hotel in Cocoa Beach. Heard Pat Duggins speak
about his new book on the Final Countdown for the
End of the Shuttle Program. Fred bought the
book. I'm too cheap. We also "networked" with
other space professionals. I learned that
Richard Nixon made his "I'm not a crook!" speech
at the Contemporary Hotel at Disney.]
