The International Space Development Conference, the annual conference of the National Space Society, was held here in Orlando, FL, in 2009!  Thanks to an amazing effort from friends and members of the three Florida-based NSS chapters, ISDC 2009 was a huge success.

Location:Omni Orlando Resort at ChampionsGate

We were proud to partner with the Omni Orlando Resort at ChampionsGate as our hotel and conference venue for ISDC 2009.

Dates:

Space Investment Summit was Wednesday, May 27, 2009

ISDC main programming was Thursday – Sunday, May 28-31, 2009

Basic event details:

  • four-day conference (Thursday-Sunday)
  • also host to several smaller conferences (ex: a one-day Space Investment workshop on Wednesday)
  • plenary sessions in the morning followed by breakout sessions in the afternoon
  • mix of grassroots space advocates and aerospace industry professionals
  • lunches and dinners feature guest speakers
  • NSS Gala banquet event on Friday night

As the host chapter, we were responsible for all of the conference logistics and implementation. We were also primarily responsible for developing conference tracks and inviting non-plenary speakers.

    Hi,

Congratulations on winning the bid to host the 2009 ISDC. I’m definitely looking forward to attending. I hope your plans for a banquet at the Kennedy Space Center work out.

    Best of luck to you.

    Jim

Whatever you do, please make sure session managers and panel heads allow audience members to ask questions. ISDC 2008 was such a disaster in that respect – especially with people like Marianne Dyson mugging for the C-SPAN cameras. A key reason to go to an ISDC is to be able to interact with people and panelists, and ask things you wouldn’t get to otherwise. In 2008, more often than not, audience members were shut out of that process.
